The problem with the majority of people is they focus more on lacking and not abundance. They regret not having a sound financial position, not having a life partner, not having good health, and many other things they lack.

They do not focus on the things they have in abundance. They may have good parents, compassionate friends, a roof over their heads, food to eat, a weekend to spend with family, and several other great things in life.

The more we focus on lack, the more we attract those things in life.

“Instead of focusing on the world’s problems, give your attention and energy to trust, love, abundance, education, and peace. :-)”

― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

Focus on the wrong things will destroy good things.

Focus on lacking multiplies it and even destroys other beautiful things.

Focus on wonderful things erases the feeling of lacking.

Focus on weakness, and you will get weaker. Focus on your strength, and you will get stronger.

Focus on misfortunes will invite more troubles in life. Focusing on blessings will attract more pleasant things.

Attention to good things does not remove the bad stuff, but it just shifts your attention from negativity.

Heros who gave priority to focus on the right things

Mahatma Gandhi was against violence and conducted the freedom movement with non-violence. He knew that the more he uses violence, the more it will aggravate. So, he was aware at that time that his attention should be on the right things.

Martin Luther King, Jr also walked in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and put his complete attention on non-violence for the civil rights movement in America.

Past and future is the problem.

“If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.”

― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the heart

We all have tendencies to live in the past or future. We never pay heed to what exactly is happening to us in the present. We do not give attention to what’s in hand but what we have lost(past) and what we will achieve(future)

Our mind oscillates from past to future. At our home, workplace, gym, restaurant, theatre, whichever is the place, we never enjoy the present moment and worry about the past and future. What we give attention to will grow.

Focus on love, not accomplishment

Most people focus on what they will achieve while doing any work. No one gives attention to the love they must feel for the work they are doing. It would be best if we immersed ourselves fully in work without any expectation of the fruits we will reap.

“Do your duty, but do not concern yourself with the results.”

  • Shri Krishna

Even Krishna said around five thousand years ago to Arjun that one should focus on doing the duty without expecting the outcome.

Krishna knew that focus should be on the work and not on the output.

Your life goes where your attention goes.

If you think about becoming a writer, then you will turn into it one day. If you believe in starting your youtube channel, you will end up doing it one day. What you continuously think about all day, you will do it someday in the future. So it is essential that you put your attention to good things and not useless things.

If we watch porn every day, we will have erotic thoughts the whole day and focus on gaining more sexual pleasures. But if we read a self-help book, it will inspire us to do great things in life.

So we all must focus on things which will make this world a better place to live.
